The Trump Effect
Donald Trump is one of the few people on the planet who manages to get media attention for everything he does...or says. Don't blame the media for this unsurprising reality. Everyone knows the easiest way to get attention is to say something funny or outrageous. It makes sense, then, that an app putting a new twist on Trump-isms is also getting its fair share of attenion.
Earigami is an app that allows users to add their own voice and sound effects to messages, called earmojis. The app that started as a 'Snapchat with Sound' for millenials is now providing a new way to comment on the circus known as the Presidential Election.
A few weeks ago, earmojis of Donald and Melania Trump became the top trending video on Instagram. Trump supporters were outraged by the treatment Melania received by Earigami users, questioning why a non-candidate was featured alongside Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and husband, Trump. Earigami founder, Fred Scarf, responded to the backlash on a Southern California morning show. In the meantime, he enjoyed thousands of new downloads that morning.
Scarf, who is growing his year old apps, knows that the messaging and texting field is already crowded. Here are two reasons for Earigami's success
1) Simplify the Messaging
It is important to reach your target audience by making your product accessible. Consider your audience. Do they get my product? Do they see value in it?
2) Promote through Social and Broadcast Media
Companies must constantly generate fresh content. It is critical in driving more traffic to its site, for search engine optimization, not to mention keep its current and future fans engaged and looking forward to more.
In the case of Earigami, its updates on Instagram, Twitter, even Youtube are so edgy, even borderline scandalous, that they are not only popular with Earigami fans but with a random faceless audience whom Scarf expects to convert...eventually.
This week, Earigami is releasing another round of earmoji's, this bunch as shocking as the last. Is it any wonder that a national business magazine is preparing to write a story about him? Stay tuned.
